Therapy with Julia
Georgia Based Therapist
About Julia
Hi! I'm Julia. I am a relationship therapist for individuals and couples who are looking to strengthen their relationships with each other or those they are surrounded by every day. I provide in-person therapy through Bridge Family Therapy located in Athens, GA. I also provide virtual therapy to all Georgia residents. My specialty areas are family of origins issues, marital/relationship issues, anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, self-esteem, and developing deeper self understanding.
I received my Master of Professional Counseling from the MPCAC -accredited counseling program at the University of Georgia. Currently, I am a pre-licensed counselor in the state of Georgia under the supervision of Debbie Smith (LPC, CPCS). I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I have been trained in culturally competent counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Addictions Counseling.
Client-Centered Approach
My philosophy as a therapist is that you are the expert in your own life! With this in mind, I will trust you to guide me through the areas of concern that you want to focus our sessions on. I will meet these concerns with you as we develop a new set of tools for you to address these concerns in a way that feels comfortable and authentic to you.
Specialties
While I work with a range of client concerns, I specialize in working with individuals struggling with attachment issues, family of origin trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, life transitions, and marital/relationship difficulties.
Individual Therapy
I have a passion for working with the younger adult population (16 - 35 y/o). Self-discovery is a huge part of young adulthood and therapy can provide a safe place to truly explore your needs and who your most authentic self truly is! As an individual therapist, I utilize a mix of psychodynamic and emotion-focused therapy to contextualize present experiences through the lens of our past experiences to develop deeper self understanding.
Couples Therapy
As a couples therapist, I ascribe to the Gottman Method of couples therapy. This method of therapy is routed in evidence based practices that help couples create a deeper sense of understanding for their partners. Additionally, I use attachment theory to work with couples who are struggling with connecting to one another due to negative past experiences.
